It can be hard to get your head around this when you change from a built-in battery to external batteries but our team at Fogstar are here to help. From getting to grips with the different sizes of vaping batteries on offer to learning about special considerations for multiple-battery devices and understanding the answer to your question, how long does a vape battery last, we are here to assist you.

The size is a key characteristic that the name of the battery you buy will convey. The standard batteries used for vaping are called 18650 batteries. This can simply be broken into two key parts: 18 and 65. The 18 tells you the diameter of the battery, and the 65 tells you the length of the battery. So a 18650 battery is 18 mm by 65 mm. Returning back to the initial question, how long does a vape battery last? There is a lot to consider if you’re looking to get the very best performance from your battery. More modern devices are likely to run on larger batteries. The biggest devices use 26650 batteries, which generally last a lot longer between charges than 18650 options and can put out a lot of power too. Overall how long they last depends entirely on how you use them, top-line new 18650 batteries usually have 300-500 full cycles, however, the deeper you discharge them the fewer cycles.

Regardless of size, all external batteries have the same basic design and perform the same function. Having an external battery means that you can simply replace the battery when it reaches the end of its life rather than having to replace your whole vape. With an external battery when your vape runs out you can simply pop in a spare battery and continue to use it as normal, you don’t need to worry about plugging it in, just carry a spare battery with you.
