CASE STUDY: Inside a Professional Off-Grid Camper Electrical Installation with Fogstar Drift
In this latest case study, we speak to Bruce from Powerhouse Off Grid about a recent campervan electrical installation project.
Tasked with taking a Peugeot Boxer fully off-grid, Bruce designed and installed a high-capacity electrical system using dual Fogstar Drift batteries – delivering reliable power, smart redundancy, and complete energy independence on the road.
📍 About the Build

Can you tell us a bit about your project?
Our sister company, Coalition Vans, converted a Peugeot Boxer into a fully off-grid campervan. The customer needed a robust power solution with built-in redundancy, so Powerhouse Off Grid designed a system to deliver both reliability and performance.
What led you to choose a Fogstar leisure battery?
We’ve come to expect competitive pricing and solid after-sales support from Fogstar. It made the decision easy.
⚙️ Technical Overview
Which Fogstar battery are you using?
This project required some serious power, so we opted for a dual battery configuration: 2 x 300Ah Fogstar Drift units. For larger power demands, we prefer using two batteries in parallel rather than relying on a single high-capacity unit. It offers greater flexibility and performance under load.
What other components are part of your system?
- Victron Multiplus 12/3000/120
- Victron SmartSolar 100/50
- Victron Orion XS 50A DC-DC charger
- Standard 12V lighting and outlets.
How straightforward was the battery installation?
Extremely straightforward, particularly with Fogstar’s battery bases. For a professional installer, it was seamless.
💡 Performance & Experience
How have Fogstar batteries performed so far?
Faultlessly. We’ve not had a single issue since installation – they’re performing exactly as expected.
Have you noticed any benefits for the customer, such as improved run times or faster charging?
Definitely. The customer is benefiting from consistently strong performance – long run times, fast and efficient charging, and total confidence in their system. Fogstar’s intelligent BMS and build quality really shine here. As the brand continues to grow, we’re excited to see how things like warranty processes evolve to make things even smoother for end users.
What challenges (if any) have you encountered?
Nothing on the technical side – the system has performed flawlessly.
Occasionally, high demand at Fogstar means certain products take a little longer to arrive, but honestly, it’s a good sign. Fogstar’s reputation is clearly growing fast, and we’ve simply adjusted our planning to accommodate that. It's a small trade-off for gear we know we can trust.
🧠 Advice for Others
What advice would you give to someone planning a similar setup?
Always speak to a professional before purchasing appliances or components. We frequently see customers buy a BlueSolar unit thinking it's SmartSolar – only to find it lacks Bluetooth capabilities.
We also recommend using two batteries in parallel rather than one large unit. With inverters becoming increasingly powerful, a parallel setup delivers performance without pushing the BMS to its limits. Yes, Fogstar’s BMS is impressive – but there’s no need to run a battery at full capacity when you can design a system that delivers comfortably.
Is there anything you wish you'd known before starting this project?
There’s a flood of low-quality electrical components on the market – we’d love to see better access to reliable, high-grade fuses for UK installers. Standardisation in fuse ratings and availability would make a huge difference!
