Case Study: Fogstar 48V Batteries in Luxury Off-Grid Cabin Installations

Tasked with powering Unplugged’s off-grid cabin retreats in some of the UK and Europe’s most remote locations, Tiny Build Electrics turned to Fogstar's range of 48V lithium batteries for dependable, high-performance energy storage.

The result is quiet, consistent power that maintains comfort and safety well away from the grid. This case study highlights how Fogstar batteries underpin professionally designed off-grid electrical systems engineered for long-term performance. Across each cabin, the battery system plays a central role in delivering that reliability.

Fogstar Batteries in Practical Off-Grid Cabins

Across the cabins, Fogstar batteries sit at the heart of each electrical system, supplying stable power for lighting, appliances, monitoring equipment, and control systems throughout extended periods of off-grid operation. By designing the system around the battery storage from the outset, each installation can be properly protected and monitored as a complete electrical setup, rather than a collection of disconnected components.

Using Fogstar 48V Battery Systems Off-Grid

Fogstar 48V battery systems are specified in off-grid electrical designs built for efficiency, reliability, and long-term performance.

Operating at 48V reduces current draw, limits cable losses, and supports efficient inverter operation. In compact cabin builds, this enables cleaner system layouts, better heat management, and more robust overall performance.

Each Fogstar battery includes an integrated Battery Management System that protects against electrical and thermal faults, helping deliver safe, dependable off-grid power where reliability is critical.

Part of a Complete Electrical System

Rather than being added as standalone units, Fogstar batteries are installed as part of complete off-grid electrical systems designed and built by Tiny Build Electrics.

Each system combines battery storage with Victron Energy inverter, charging, and monitoring equipment to provide stable AC power throughout the cabin. Solar charging is managed using Victron SmartSolar MPPT charge controllers to support battery charging between guest stays. Together, these components operate as a single, integrated system rather than separate standalone devices.

DC distribution is handled using the Victron Lynx Power creating a tidy, serviceable layout that supports maintenance and future expansion.

Designed for Safety and Repeatability

All systems were engineered in line with BS7671 (IET Wiring Regulations) and relevant UK guidance for off-grid electrical installations. The timber construction and relocatable nature of the cabins influenced key design choices, including earthing, bonding, circuit protection, and fire safety.

To maintain consistency across multiple cabins, the electrical systems were built as panel-assembled units in Tiny Build Electrics’ Cumbria workshop, ensuring each installation follows a proven and repeatable design.

Remote Monitoring in Remote Locations

Each cabin is equipped with a Victron Energy Cerbo GX connected via 4G, enabling remote oversight of the battery system and associated electrical equipment.

This allows system performance and status to be checked across multiple locations without the need for frequent site visits, supporting reliable operation in hard-to-access off-grid environments.

Fogstar Battery Storage for Off-Grid Living

This project shows how Fogstar 48V lithium batteries can reliably power high-quality off-grid accommodation when they’re part of a properly designed electrical system.

Combined with proven inverter and monitoring technology and installed by specialists, Fogstar battery storage provides a dependable backbone for modern off-grid living, delivering quiet, consistent power without compromising comfort.

For anyone considering off-grid power for cabins, retreats, or remote buildings, this approach shows why well-specified battery storage matters. Especially when long-term reliability matters more than short-term fixes.
